SAGAING DIVISION – An official from Ye U People’s Defence Organisation (PDO) said that repair works are being carried out on a road section in Ye U Township, using the allocated funds from the National Unity Government (NUG) Municipal Department.
Although he didn’t mention the road section being repaired citing security reasons, he explained that the road was destroyed by bomb blasts during battle in addition to erosion damages and stated that the repairs started on April 27.
“Because the roads are damaged and ruined in sections, it is difficult for the war refugees to traverse the road when fleeing from the conflicts. The people have to flee en masse in cars and bullock carts and there have been cases of cars turning over due to the damaged roads. That’s why we have to repair it. The transportation should improve after the repairs are finished,” said the official of Ye U PDO who is heading the repair works.
It is said that the road repairs are being carried out by Ye U People’s Administration Body (PAB) and PDO, using the funds allocated by the NUG Municipal Department and Roads Department.
The repairs are expected to be completed within the next ten days if things go well but the official said that there are difficulties due to the military situation and the availability of gravel and cement as the junta council has restricted the transport of cement.
Skilled labours for the road repairs are being paid wages but the hard labour is reportedly being done by volunteers from Ye U PDO.
The road, originally an asphalt road, is said to be being repaired by digging out the ruined parts and replacing with 8-inch concrete slabs.
