SAGAING DIVISION – The junta column murdered two youths in three townships of Shwebo District, and at least 13 civilians were killed within one month.
On February 6, at around 11 p.m., over 80 junta troops raided Kokkusu Village of Ye-U Township. Then, the junta soldiers murdered Mr. Zaw Thein Htike, 28, and Mr. Thein Than Kywal, 31, said Mr. Htoo Khant Zaw, an official of Ye-U PDF.
That junta column consisted of the junta soldiers from infantry battalions 71 and 708. Since January 1, 2024, those junta troops have left Ye-U Town and have been raiding Ye-U, Khin-U, and Depayin Townships.
“The junta column raided the villages in Ye-U, Khin-U, and Depayin Townships and illegally abducted civilians. Then, they looted phones, gold, and money from the civilians and murdered them by accusing them of being PDF,” said Htoo Myat Zaw.
From January 3 to 12, those junta soldiers murdered two women and two men, including one pregnant woman, in the west of Khin-U Township. From January 18 to 20, the junta council murdered one woman, an NUG Justice Official, and four men from Mel Owl Village. On January 23, the junta troops murdered one PDF comrade from Kone Tha Village of Ye-U Township, and on February 1 and 2, the junta soldiers murdered three men in their 30s, said LDF comrades.
Four youths who were abducted by that junta column lost contact, said Depayin PAB. Then, the junta soldiers set fire to ten houses in Kyun Taw Gyi Village, 148 houses in Thar Wahti Village, and massive nuts and four houses in The Kone Gyi Village, said the residents.
That junta column relaunched their offensive in the west of Ye-U Township on Wednesday (February 8), forcing over ten thousand civilians to flee.
That column is stationed at Mote Si Village, at the border of Depayin and Ye-U Townships, and Depayin Township Brothers Group warned the public to be aware that they could raid the villages at night.
