KARENNI STATE- It is known that the military council troops stationed inside Ywarthit Village have retreated, but the residents dare not return to their homes as military soldiers used to plant landmines in the places where they were stationed.
“Locals have not returned home yet. Soldiers (might) planted mines there,” said a person close to the residents of Ywarthit Village.
The troops retreated on the night of November 11, when the revolutionary forces were conducting urban operations (Operation 1111). Military council had made their troops retreat to resist urban operations, said the commander of the Karenni Army, Colonel Phone Naing.
“There are no more enemies in Ywarthit village. They have retreated. Those soldiers under the No.(2) Operation Command Headquarters, Infantry Battalion (515), back to Bawlakhe Town,” Colonel Phone Naing answered in a media interview.
Since there are four monasteries in the village, many have lived together in the monasteries until now. There are around five hundred residents in Ywarthit Village who have started to grow spring rice for food but are currently in a shortage of food.
“The difficulty is that some families run out of rice. I can’t tell all about challenges they are facing. But it must be said that there is a shortage of food,” said a person close to the residents of Ywarthit Village.
Since the end of June, around 500 locals have been trapped inside the Ywarthit village, Bawlakhe District, Karenni state, where the military council troops entered and deployed. It is reported that the military council troops banned the residents from leaving the town.
Civilians who tried to leave the village were shot by military troops up to six locals were killed. Moreover, a young girl died without receiving medical treatment, and an elderly person also died. Thus, up until December 13, eight civilians have died so far in Ywarthit Village.
