BAGO DIVISION – The junta light infantry battalion (LIB) 589 is reported to have set up toll gates, blocking the inter-village roads in Shwekyin Township to collect illegal tolls, reported the residents.
Starting on July 24, LIB 589 based in Donsayit Village of Shwekyin Township reportedly blocked off all roads that pass through Donsayit Village except the one that passes in front of their base where they set up toll gates to extort the passing vehicles.
Previously on July 21, a battle broke out between PDF troops and the terrorist junta forces between Saluchaung Village and Kywaltae Village in the area.
“Junta Seargent Zaw Min from Donsayit based LIB 589 and Donsayit Village Chief Myint Lwin led the blockade of Donsayit Village entrance and the routes. Only the road that passes in front of the LIB 589 base was left open and they have set up gates there. They are extorting all the cars and motorcycles passing on that road. Each car reportedly have to pay 30,000 MMK and motorcycles carrying fuel are demanded to pay them two bottles of fuel,” explained a resident.
