KARENNI STATE- The displaced persons from Loikaw to the western side of Demoso have been fleeing the war and staying at Shwetaung IDP camp for almost two months now and are in need of food, warm clothes and blankets, according to IDPs.
There are 18 households at Shwetaung IDP camp and more than 70 people live there, including three elderly and disabled people and ten children under the age of 18.
Due to heavy weaponry and aerial bombardment by junta terrorists, they had been displaced with only one piece of clothing, and there weren’t enough pots and pans, according to the IDPs.
Since last year November 11th until January 9, there have been clashes between the Military Council Army and the Defense Forces in Loikaw City. The displaced persons dared not take the food and essentials back from home, but they had to survive with the help of the locals (where they were temporarily settled).
There are more than 100,000 people fleeing the war in the western part of Demoso. As the number of IDPs rises and the period of being displaced gets longer, there aren’t enough food, medicine, blankets, and warm clothes for the IDPs. It was reported that only one meal or two meals a day is served in some of the camps.
