SAGAING DIVISION – Over 50 houses were burned down and more than 20,000 civilians were forced to flee as the terrorist junta army shelled and torched five villages in Shwebo Township, reported local residents.
The junta terrorists from LIB (light infantry battalion) 12 in Kyaukmyaung Town of Shwebo Township joined up with their subordinate Pyu Saw Htee militia from Gwaykone and Ywarthitgone Villages then invaded the villages of Kangyitaw, Takanthar, Ngapioh, Thekyun, Ywarthitgone and Zaunggyangone under cover of heavy artillery fire around 10 a.m. on Monday (September 4).
Said junta offensive reportedly resulted in two residents of Thekyun Village and one resident of Ngapioh Village getting injured by shrapnel.
“Junta forces recklessly fired heavy artillery into Kangyitaw, Takanthar, Ngapioh, Thekyun, Ywarthitgone and Zaunggyangone Villages around 10 o’ clock this morning (September 4). Two Thekyun villagers and one Ngapioh resident were hit. Heavy artillery shells also landed near the ladies working on the fields at Kangyitaw Village,” said a local resident who added that more than 6,000 displaced people are facing food shortage and that many have been falling sick due to the rain.
Just recently on September 2, a junta column of around 50 junta forces arrived at Gwaypinkone Village via Maungtat Village in Shwebo Township and set camp there on September 2 and 3. The column then left towards Ngapioh Village (Hanlin Myohaung Village) on September 4 morning while recklessly firing heavy weapons into villages.
Junta offensives and arson are said to have burned down over 50 houses at Ywarthitgone Village and caused more than 20,000 people from villages such as Ngapioh, Thekyun, Gwaykone, Kangyitaw, Ywarthitgone, Takanthar, Zaunggyangone, Taungttin, Phwinthlaing, Chaungsone, Thitchopin, Yinmakan, Bote, Butar, Motesoechon, Nyaungkan, Kyaukmankan, Shweku and Nyaungyinkone Villages, to flee.
