BAGO DIVISION – An anti-junta banner was hung in Paungde, western Bago Division, to commemorate the upcoming 35th anniversary of the 8888 uprising, said a leader from Paungde 7/People’s Strike Committee.
The banners saying “Eradicate the junta forces, junta council, and junta bureaucratic mechanism” and “No other way except eradication” were said to be hanging in part of Paungde Town.
They also mentioned their wishes for the people to be more involved in the revolution as they are also being affected, saying, “In order to escape from inflation, electricity power cutoffs, commodity price increases, and starvation, the people are urged to join the revolution in any form, instead of just cheering from the sidelines.”
Coming August 8 marks the 35th anniversary of the 8888 uprising, when the people of Myanmar rose against the one-party dictatorship system in 1988.
