KACHIN STATE – The clashes occurred between the KIA and Min Zin Thant’s junta backup militia in Ja Htu Zup Village on Saturday morning (July 8), destroying many houses in the village.
Over 100 troops from the KIA raided the place of the junta backup militia leader, Min Zin Thant, and the battle lasted around five hours.
“They fired from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., and the residents are still hiding in the village because they’re afraid. The sound of gunfire has stopped, but the junta backup troops are still patrolling around the village, and the villagers haven’t eaten anything since morning,” said a resident.
That battle affected almost every house in the entire village, the church campus, and the buildings, and some civilians were also wounded.
“Many houses were destroyed because of the artillery shells. I would have been affected if I didn’t run away as soon as I heard the launch of the attack. The offices on the campus of the KBC Church were also affected by the artillery shells. We don’t know the exact details as everyone couldn’t go out,” said the resident.
It is reported that the junta backup militia troops went around the village by car, hanging the body of a KIA troop who was killed in the battle. The details couldn’t be confirmed as the phone lines were cut off, and the casualties were still being investigated.
Residents from Aung Yar and San Pya Villages, including Ja Htu Zup Village, are still sheltering in bunkers.
