SAGAING DIVISION – The shelling by junta council troops stationed at the police station in Sheinmakar Village of Wetlet Township into the surrounding area caused some damage to a monastery and also killed two cattle, according to the Wetlet Information Network.
Said junta forces fired five rounds of 60 mm shells and ten rounds of 40 mm shells into the nearby villages around 3 p.m. On Sunday (July 23), some of the shells hit Dhama Paragu Monastery to the north of Sheinmakar Village.
“They (junta forces) told the villagers that they would fire heavy artillery into the monastery if defence forces attacked them, but there was no one attacking them on that day. They just one-sidedly fired the heavy artillery. Luckily, there was no harm to the villagers,” said an official from the Wetlet Information Network.
In addition, the same junta troops are reported to have robbed between 300,000 and 500,000 kyats from the shops in Sheinmakar Village.
The above official added, quoting a villager, “Around six or seven shopkeepers were robbed. The (junta) soldiers extorted the shopkeepers, saying that they had been taking care of their security. The shopkeepers couldn’t refuse to pay.”
It is said that such robberies of civilians by the junta forces have become frequent.
On November 8, 2022, the heavy artillery shell fired from Sheinmakar Police Station landed on a house in the southern part of the village and killed a 40-year-old woman, while a 50-year-old woman, a 40-year-old man, and a 2-year-old child were injured.
