KACHIN STATE – It was reported that Myitkyina Airport was closed and all flights departing from Myitkyina were canceled, on March 9, according to the passengers.
“Myitkyina Airport was closed. The flight departing to Yangon at 11:30 a.m., on March 9, were cancelled. At first, the flight seemed to be late, but later announced that the airport was closed. Passengers have returned,” said an official from the travel ticket agency.
Locals said that the sound of explosions occurred continuously in Myitkyina on the night of March 8, and it was reported that Myitkyina Airport was attacked by improvised rockets. On the morning of March 7, Myitkyina airbase was also attacked with improvised rockets, a Mi-17 helicopter, and an aircraft were reportedly destroyed.
On the morning of March 7, the Revolutionary Forces fired at Bhamo Airport with improvised rockets, damaging the runway and cancelling flights indefinitely.
