KAREN STATE – Cobra Column issued a statement saying that even though the junta council troops had been trying to recapture Letkhat mountain which was captured by the Karen National Union (KNU) led alliance forces, they didn’t even manage to get close to the foot of the mountain.
The revolutionary alliance forces captured Letkhat mountain camp on July 21 and the junta council troops have launched offensives to reclaim the mountain camp since July 24.
Cobra Column issued that it’s been over three weeks since the junta council forces have launched the offensive attacks. During that period, the junta council forces launched over ten offensive attacks, but they couldn’t even manage to get close to the foot of the mountain.
Cobra Column announced that more than ten battles broke out between July 24 and August 13, since the alliance forces captured the camp. During the battles, 17 junta council troops including two captains were said to have been killed and 34 were reportedly injured.
One comrade from the revolutionary alliance forces also sacrificed his life for the country while eight were injured and a drone was damaged.
Moreover, a lance corporal and a private defected from the junta council’s side and surrendered to the alliance forces along with their weapons. The two junta council troops came under the alliance forces along with one 60 MM commando mortar, five 60 MM grenades, one MA 2, six cartridges and 6000 bullets.
In addition, Cobra Column issued that the alliance forces managed to confiscate eight 40 mm grenades, two M16A2, ten M16 cartridges, 188 carbine bullets, six carbine cartridges, 93 NATO bullets, one landmine, 130 junta council produced 5.56 bullets, 688 5.56 bullets and seven AK bullets.
Letkhat mountain is an important military region and the alliance of KNU/KNLA Brigade 6, Cobra Column 1, Black Leopard column, Federal Wings and Raung Ni are fighting against the junta council in the area.
