TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The junta council’s heavy artillery shells destroyed a civilian house in Range Village, Thayet Chaung Township, on Wednesday (January 10) at around 9 a.m.
The junta shells dropped, exploded, and set fire to a house made of wood and bricks in the west of Range Village.
“No one was at home, and the villagers extinguished the fire,” said a resident.
In July 2023, fighting intensified between PDF and junta forces, forcing civilians to flee. Now, the fire has been extinguished as some have returned to the village.
According to residents, the junta forces stationed on Ka Myaing Village Hill, adjacent to Range Village, might have fired those artillery shells.
The junta council fired heavy artillery shells without an apparent reason. “We heard five launches of heavy artillery shells, and one of them might have hit. We couldn’t determine the destination of the rest,” said another resident.
The junta forces from Ka Myaing Hill Village might be expanding their troops to Yay Cho Creek and Si Taw Village, causing villagers from those areas to flee.
On New Year’s Day, junta artillery shells destroyed two civilian houses in Nyaung Pin Kwin Village, Tanintharyi Township.
Last month, junta artillery shells killed civilians and pets, destroyed houses and trucks in Ye Phyu Village and Myeik Township.
