TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Tanintharyi Township People’s Defence Force (PDF) announced on Friday (May 20) that they never collect money from pedestrians.
Tanintharyi PDF denies the collection of taxes or extorting passersby on the roads between Nyaung Ping Kwin Village and Thabaw Late Village.
“An armed group is collecting taxes and extorting the pedestrians on those roads. It has been a month now. The armed group mainly asks for money,” stated a resident of Tanintharyi Township.
It is still unverified which armed organization is extorting money on that road segment.
Tanintharyi PDF announced they are official members following the (warrior) ethics and practices guided by the National Unity Government of Myanmar (NUG).
Tanintharyi PDF also announced that if any member commits a crime, punishments are imposed effectively and actions are taken according to the code of conduct issued by the (NUG) Military Command Team of Tanintharyi Division.
