TANINTHARYI DIVISION – “Cremate and end rapists and patriarchy,” read the banner as the Rose-coloured Women Union (Dawei), a member organisation of Dawei District Democracy Movement Strike Committee (DDMSC), led a campaign in Launglon Township on Wednesday (May 31) afternoon.
The strike committee announced that the aim of the campaign is to bring effective punishment to those who commit sexual assault on women and to call to arms in the fight to eradicate the patriarchy for democracy, human rights, gender equality and to build a free and safe society.
The issued statement said that dictators of all eras had committed arrest, torture and murder as well as sexual assault on women and some people fighting against those dictators had also committed similar crimes.
It also detailed the incidents of a NLD executive member for Tawntay Township committed rape on a five-year-old child in Maesot, Thailand and how four members of People’s Defence Team in Chaung U Township of Monywa District, Sagaing Division raped and murdered four women including two minors on August 30, 2022.
Rose-coloured Women Union urged NUG as well as revolutionary forces to quickly investigate the rapists and mete out appropriate punishment. It, along with DDMSC, also informed that they will continue to fight for the eradication of patriarchy and military dictatorship.
