BAGO DIVISION – A male political prisoner, over 60 years old, died in the morning of March 6 because he did not receive enough medical treatment.
The All-Myanmar Network of Political Prisoners (PPNM) informed that political prisoner Mr. Khin Soe, who died in prison, was 64 years old and a native of Khatut Village, Waw Township, Bago Division.
Mr. Khin Soe was arrested on August 8 last year, and the junta council charged him with terrorism act under section 52 (a), 50 (j) and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
“He has been in bad health for about two months, and although he repeatedly requested medical treatment, the prison authorities did not care about it,” PPNM reported.
It is reported that Mr. Khin Soe died after suffering from stomach and intestinal problems.
Last February 9, 68 year old political prisoner Mr. Aye Win, who was serving an 8-year prison sentence, similarly died because he did not receive enough medical treatment, PPNM said.
This is the second time an elderly male political prisoners in Daik U Prison died in one month.
This year, according to the list of PPNM, seven political prisoners from Obo Prison, Magway Prison, Kyeikmayaw Prison and Daik U prison have died due to lack of access to adequate medical care.
