KACHIN STATE – According to a Kachin military source, more than kyats 50,000 lakh of money and some gold bars were found inside the 142nd Infantry Battalion based in Lweje, where the junta council troops and departmental officials had fled.
The Junta Council troops and department officials who were sheltering in the 142nd Infantry Battalion had fled to China at around 8:00 p.m. on April 8th. After that, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) seized the battalion without firing a single shot, as well as the weapons and ammunition inside the battalion. The military source said that the KIA has seized the tax money collected by the junta council from the Lweje border trade.
“These are the taxes collected from the border trade. They also found gold bars. They are not of low value,” said a Kachin military source.
The KIA took control of Lweje last April 4th and occupied departmental buildings. The soldiers of the military council who did not run away in the previous day’s battles, a total of 62 police and departmental officials took refuge in Infantry Battalion 142.
He said that KIA forced IB 142 to surrender without attacking. On the night of April 8th, they all fled to China, the source said.
It was initially reported that the fugitives would be picked up by the Chinese Immigration Service and the police and transferred back to the Junta Council via the air or Muse border crossing.
Now the entire city of Lweje has been taken over by the KIA, and the administration of the KIA has started to operate. Lweje is a city with a trade border gate with China.
