KARENNI STATE – On the morning of November 23, the terrorist junta soldiers reportedly fired at some vehicles carrying displaced people of Loikaw City for another town, according to a lorry driver, who had been displaced from Loikaw City.
“My truck was shot. I had to drive away, although nothing happened to me. Nobody don’t know when they (murderous junta soldiers) open fire or not. There were people who had escaped from the shooting or not,” he said.
The brutal junta soldiers had frequently opened fire on vehicles driving along the main road, near the border of Naung Yar and Nar Nat Taw wards, at the exit point of Loikaw City, according to a Karenni displaced person in Shan State.
Residents said that at least one person was killed and two others were injured when the junta army opened fire on vehicles running from Loikaw City in the past few days.
“The displaced people need to know the route to get out of the city, when they run away. If they take the wrong route, there is a possibility of getting shot. The best thing to do is to accompany the convoy,” said a resident of Loikaw.
On November 17 and 18, many residents deserted their homes to save their lives and there were at least 500 vehicles carrying displaced people, said a driver.
The groups helping the displaced people estimated that the number of displaced people from Loikaw City, where the fights took place daily, had reached around 40,000 and there might be around 20,000 people who were trapped in the city. As of the 13th day of the “11.11 operation”, there are still deserters from Loikaw City.
According to the 2014 census, there are more than 50,000 people in Loikaw City, and around 10,000 displaced from other townships have sheltered there.
