KARENNI STATE – Junta soldiers have been breaking into and stealing from the houses and shops in Loikaw City and also planted landmines and shock mines in the resident wards, reported the residents and defence force members.
Junta soldiers and police led by Captain Shine Htet Aung are reported to be committing theft at Naungyar (Kha), Shan Pine and Min Su Wards.
“Captain Shine Htet Aung is from Loikaw based military engineer corps 942. He is definitely part of it as I have seen him before the battles. Moreover, they are targeting the shops in addition to the houses,” said a resident still in Loikaw.
The resident informed that the shops recently looted by those junta forces include shops in Naungyar (Kha) Ward, Techno World Store in Min Su Ward and Daung Fashion Store in Shan Pine Ward.
“Junta forces have torched and destroyed the houses near the Regional Operations Command (ROC) and the hospital hill and planted landmines and shock mines in that area,” said a soldier of the Karenni Coalition fighting in Loikaw.
He warned of the dangers posed by those mines to the civilians returning home to collect items.
“A civilian who tried to take an item from home in Min Su Ward was injured after triggering the shock mines. The trigger for those mines are extremely thin and transparent strings like guitar strings or fishing lines. It is hard to spot them even during the day,” explained the above soldier of the Karenni Coalition.
