KARENNI STATE – It is reported that junta troops have been inspecting the pedestrians, motorcycles and cars in the vicinity of Myonam Pagoda, Loikaw Town on Monday (August 21).
Eight traffic police officers and about 20 policemen were deployed along the area from Myonam Pagoda to the clock tower, and are monitoring and checking the passersby.
“The junta forces are from various departments. Motorcyclistals were arrested (and fined) for not wearing helmets. Vehicle licenses and driver licenses were checked. The forces are spread out in the town,” said a resident.
It is still investigating whether the inspected motorcycles and cars were seized or (bribe) money was demanded.
The locals urged the public to be careful travelling in the town as junta troops may check the passersby and vehicles, arrest and extort money.
In some areas controlled by junta council, the military troops set up gates and checked the pedestrians and often extort money, reported the locals.
