KARRENI STATE – Relatives said that a 17-year-old youth died when three prisoners were arrested and tortured in a cell in Loikaw prison and only the family found out on January 13th.
It is said that three political prisoners under the age of 18 were recaptured during the Loikaw prison break-out on November 22nd, and one died during interrogation.
A former political prisoner, Ko Zin Lin Htet, said, “The structure of the Loikaw Prison is that there is a walkway between the male and female wards. He died on the walkway. The rest were tortured in custody,” he said.
The deceased in Loikaw prison was George Maung Ngae, a resident of Nanattaw Ward. He has been charged with 505 cases.
It was said that he was shot when he was about to die after being tortured and he died because he was not allowed to receive medical treatment.
In addition, the remaining 2 had injuries such as a broken head, broken jaw, broken leg, broken hand, broken backbone, and broken nose due to torture and had not received medical treatment until today, said family members of political prisoners.
“It’s like they think of him as the leader. During the jailbreak, they went outside a lot. When the police came, all re-entered from the hole they broke out, but three of them remained outside,” the former political prisoner Ko Zin Lin Htet added.
The Karenni Political Prisoners’ Association (KPPA) has requested that the military council treat the prisoners according to the prison law they have enacted, and they want them to work according to humane law no matter the situation.
