MYANMAR – About 130 members of parliament were detained after the coup, and 16 of them died either in prison or while fleeing the junta council.
Among those detained are 41 members of the union level and 87 state-level MPs, of which 90 MPs are still in custody, according to the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH).
Oak Pho District Member of Parliament Mr. Maung Myint was arrested and died in prison due to his poor health, without receiving medical treatment.
In addition, Mr. Kyaw Myo Min (Bilin Constituency No. 2, Mon State) was brutally killed on the road side after he was arrested by the junta council. It is reported that five members of the Pyidaungsu (Union) Hluttaw and nine members of the state parliament died because they did not receive adequate medical treatment while fleeing.
The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw issued a statement on May 20, regarding the hardships faced by Members of the Parliament across the country.
In addition, four members of Parliament, the current NUG Minister of Defense, Mr. Yee Mon, Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Lwin Ko Lat, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Zin Mar Aung and Ms. Phyu Phyu Thin have had their citizenship revoked.
It is also stated that the ruling terrorist junta council has been abducting the heads of state, monks, public servants and students.
To reveal these situations internationally, CRPH said it is working together with International Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights.
In addition, CRPH stated that the needs of the detained MPs and their families are being helped, in cooperation with relevant departments and organizations.
