SAGAING DIVISION – Some villages along the banks of the Irrawaddy River in Wetlet Township, were reported to be fired by a military ship on August 31 evening and residents were fleeing for safety.
After the drone attack by the local defence forces in Ywar Thayar Village, Singu Township on August 30, military ships appeared after 4 p.m. on August 31 and reportedly fired with heavy artilleries towards Yay Lae Maw, Maw Oo and Kan Phyu villages which located on the bank of Irrawaddy River and in the eastern part of Wet Let Township.
“They have been shelling non-stop since yesterday (August 31) evening until night,” recalled by a resident.
In the morning of September 1, it was reported that the warship was docked near Ywar Thayar Village.
Due to this incident, the schools, including the monastic schools, were closed. More than 3,000 local residents from Kan Phyu, Maw Oo and Yay Lae Maw villages were reportedly fled for safety.
Locals added that the army was fully equipped with weapons and supplies in Ywar Thayar Village, and when the army arrived, the Pyusawhtee militias from that village often cooperated with the army and looted goods from nearby villages.
