KACHIN STATE – Some local residents said that the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the military junta troops clashed again in Nan Sanyang Village, Waing Maw Township.
Fighting broke out again after a battle took place near the village of Nan Sanyang on June 16.
“They said it has been going on since 5 a.m. Now I heard that the villagers are trying to evacuate,” said a Nan Sanyang resident.
Some local Kachin news outlets reported that local residents have fled to safety due to the fighting in the Nan Sanyang area.
Another local resident said that the fighting was caused by the military junta troops’ attempt to redeploy to the place they had previously occupied in Nan Sanyang Village.
“They have a plan. They want to return to the place with the order from the center (Northern Regional Command of the military junta council). The villagers objected that no one should station (at the village) from either side. And yet the junta column came and launched an offensive. That’s why the battle broke out. It happened once before on June 16,” the local said.
The June 16 battle near the village of Nansanyan resulted in several junta casualities and the KIA was able to seize some weapons and ammunition.
Nan Sanyang Village was the first village to flee the war in the 2011 battle between the KIA and the military junta troops, and the local residents were resettled before the coup. Now the fighting has resurged and the locals have to flee again.
