BAGO DIVISION – The five locals who had been detained by junta troops two months ago passed away and the junta council reportedly informed their families last Saturday (June 17), an official from the Waw People’s Defence Team (PDT) told the media.
Three locals from Phoe Sabai Village and two from Kyonepar Village in Waw Township were detained last April for alleged association with the attack on Nyaungkharshay Police Station. A woman was included in the detainees of one middle aged person and four seniors.
The detainees were found to be Mr. Win Zaw Htay (52), Ms. Tin Myo Khine (53) and Mr. San Shay (45) from Phoe Sabai Village, Mr. Mya Thein (60), and Mr. Kyaw Myint Thein (35) from Kyonepar Village.
“The police officers announced their death to the families only on June 17, after two months of detainment. The police didn’t mention the time nor cause of death. They didn’t show the deceased bodies to the families either (only informing their deaths and that they have been cremated so the families could hold a funeral for them),” retold the spokesperson of Waw PDT.
During the raids and arrests of those five locals, Mr. Mya Thein and Mr. Kyaw Myint Thein were already wounded by gunshots at the time of being detained at their house.
The Nyaungkharshay Police Station was attacked by Waw PDF and Bago District PDF Battalion 3701 on April 27, 2023, as a part of “Operation Nan Htike Aung” and a policeman was killed and two were injured, as announced by Bago Region PDF.
