KAREN STATE – The Karen National Union (KNU) Central officially announced on Saturday evening (April 6) that a total of 617 from the junta side including 67 officers and 410 soldiers from Thingangnyinaung Strategic Base in KNU Brigade 6 territory surrendered.
After the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and revolutionary forces captured the strategic base 67 officers and 410 soldiers, a total of 477 surrendered at the Thingangnyinaung Strategic Base under the junta council’s South East Command, followed by the surrender of 59 female soldiers and 81 military family members, a total of 140. As such, a total of 617 from the junta side were said to have surrendered.
Thingangnyinaung Strategic Base was first attacked around 8 a.m. on April 5 and was successfully captured around 1 p.m. KNU stated that KNLA and revolutionary forces attacked and captured the junta strategic base as its presence has caused the economy, education and social values of the Karen people and other ethnic people in the region to deteriorate and the traditions and cultures to vanish, and especially made the people to live in fear and made their lives unsafe.
