MON STATE – Karen National Union (KNU) issued a statement saying that a civilian was killed and more than 10 houses were damaged due to the junta council firing heavy weapons in Thaton township, Mon state.
During 12:20 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. on December 7, the junta council’s artillery battalion 314 fired 23 rounds of heavy weapons towards the villages in Thaton township. Three shellings landed near Pan Aung Kone village. The shellings pierced into the head and the legs of 46-year-old Saw Lar Aww who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the explosion and was said to have been killed.
Moreover, one of the shellings landed near Shweyaungpya village and three cows were injured.
The junta council’s light infantry battalion 9 also fired 17 rounds of heavy weapons during 4:37 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. on December 7 and a shelling landed in Shweyaungpya village. As a result, six houses were damaged. At around 5 p.m. The junta council’s light infantry battalion 206 fired two rounds of heavy weapons.
Similarly, during 8:17 a.m. and 11 a.m. on December 4, the junta council’s artillery battalion 314 and infantry battalion 8 fired 31 rounds of heavy weapon towards the civilian villages. Fifteen artillery shellings landed in Daukyet village. As a result, a shelling pierced into the wrist of 70-year-old Mr. Win Hpay and four houses were damaged.
