TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Although the terrorist junta council used all of its forces including infantry, air force and navy force to defend Paedat Camp in Thayetchaung Township, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) joint forces successfully captured it on May 8 morning after four days of battle.
“The battle began on the morning of May 5. (The junta council) defended with air and artillery strikes from the start. They dropped over 100 bombs from planes. Now the camp is captured. There were many junta casualties as well as captured POWs,” said a source close to revolutionary soldiers.
Paedat Camp is the main junta camp in Thayetchaung and it is said that the junta council used K8W jet fighters and Mi2 helicopters during all four days of the battle while the junta navy ships also bombarded with artillery shells.
“There were air strikes on May 8 morning as well. The camp was captured despite all that,” said a PDF soldier.
Junta forces captured during the battle were seen being transported by PDF forces in trucks. “Transporting over 20 dogs (junta forces) from Paedat dog pound (junta camp) that bullied and troubled the travelling civilians,” a revolutionary soldier who took part in the battle posted on his social media account.
KNLA and PDF forces launched an attack on Paedat Camp, Winwa Police Station and Kyaukse Pyu Saw Htee Camp on the Myeik-Dawei Union Road in Thayetchaung Township on May 5 morning.
Revolutionary forces have now captured all three targets and an operation officer informed that there were prisoners of war captured and arsenal seized and that the Southern Military Region will announce the details.
