SAGAING DIVISION – It has reported that the junta council’s court martial sentenced four civilians including a woman to long-term prison in Indaw town, Sagaing division on September 2.
Indaw Revolution – IR mentioned that the victims are Mr. Zaw Myo Naing, Mr. Tin Maung Win, Ms. Thidar Win and Mr. Kyaw Thet who were being abducted in July.
An accountable person from Indaw Revolution-IR mentioned that “Mr. Kyaw Thet is from Nyaung Pin Su ward, Indaw town. The other three are not from the Indaw region. They travelled from the lower region by car. They (the victims) were abducted at Indaw gate. So, we don’t know exactly about them.”
Mr. Kyaw Thet and Ms. Thidar Win were sentenced to 7 years in prison for each under the anti-terrorism law, section 52(A) and 52(B). Mr. Zaw Myo Naing was sentenced to life imprisonment under section 50(J) and section 52(A) and Mr. Tin Maung Win was also sentenced to life imprisonment under section 50(J) and penal code (124-C).
Currently, the victims were being detained at the Indaw military hill camp and it was learned that they will be sent to Katha prison.
An Indaw local mentioned that the junta council doesn’t allow the victims who were sentenced to life imprisonment and death penalty to hire the lawyers.
He continued that “in our region, the victims who were sentenced to life imprisonment and death penalty were not allowed to hire the lawyers and to plead. They (junta council servants) convict the final adjudication within around two months of abduction.”
The junta council strengthened the security in Indaw township, Sagaing division where the battles broke out frequently starting from February, 2023 and they also abducted the civilians frequently.
The junta council sentenced the civilians who were being abducted to prison, and extorted money under the various articles that they would like to impose. Some of the civilians were sentenced to life imprisonment and death penalty.
