SHAN STATE (SOUTH) – The junta-backed militia (pyu saw htee) leader from Inn Lay, Pho Tha Htoo, also known as Nyi Nyi Tun, ran away as he could no longer pay the wages and rice he was supposed to pay to the militants under him, according to local residents.
The subordinates in Inn Lay had been convinced to join the militia and to get paid 150k Myanmar kyat and 1 rice bag as a salary, and Pho Tha Htoo ran away as he could not pay.
The news that he ran away was spread after the news that the junta militia members had resigned for not getting what they were told.
According to his social page, it was stated that he was going to Thailand, but the locals assumed that he had not actually gone and was staying somewhere in the country or going to his sister in Australia.
He also posted a picture of himself drinking alcohol in an airport toilet.
“I heard that the junta-backed militia members under him who didn’t get paid are looking for him in earnest. I think that he is going to get killed by his subordinates,” said a local woman.
Pho Tha Htoo also got drunk, fired his gun numerous times and threatened the villagers on January 13.
He was appointed by Mr. Aung Kyi Win, the current Minister of Ethnic Affairs of Shan State, under the terrorist junta council. He is infamous for illegally abducting and extorting money from local people, together with PNO and junta soldiers.
