MYANMAR – The General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB) requested for the participation of the public in the “People’s Movement Against Forced Conscription,” a public campaign collecting signatures against the conscription law of the terrorist junta council.
“Join this campaign now to free our young generation from the lives of military slavery,” urged GSCB.
GSCB informed that people can join the campaign at the following link: https://www.change.org/p/people-s-movement-against-forced-conscription?fbclid=IwAR1fLKg6fF8eI0LFncoU9vj-A6In3z546FIpm60eJxiK1scJEotuMv6geKc
The junta council, losing the war all over the country, enforced the conscription law in February in order to replenish its numbers.
Following that, they have pressured the people to register for smart cards (biometric data collection) and collected the lists of youths between 18 and 35 years old.
For the youths who don’t wish to serve the junta council, the People’s Defence Forces also opened recruitments. As such, some youths joined the revolutionary forces while some left overseas to study or work.
Although the junta council claimed that the law will come into live only in April, junta troops have been abducting youths under guise of checking for household registration and guest list and sent them for military training or released them for ransom money. In addition, the junta council has forcibly recruiting young people across the country, notably recruiting Muslim youths in Rakhine State and giving them military training, claiming it’s for Pyithusit militia training.
