SAGAING DIVISION – Junta forces raided Bawtkone Village in Ayardaw Township on Wednesday (August 2) morning and arbitrarily detained around ten local men, reported GZ Special Task Force (Ayardaw).
The terrorist junta troops stationed at Naunggyiai Village in Ayardaw Township are said to have raided Bawtkone Village under cover of gun fire around 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
The junta soldiers encountered hidden sentries on the local defense forces on their way, resulting in a short clash but the defense forces had to retreat due to discrepancy in numbers, said Mr. Nat Soe, the representative of GZ Special Task Force (Ayardaw).
“Only one of our comrades was able to return fire during that clash. They had around 70 on their side,” explained Mr. Nat Soe.
Following that, around 30 villagers were said to be detained when the junta forces entered Bawtkone Village.
While the villagers were detained, junta troops broke into the houses and torched and destroyed around 17 houses.
Then at around 10:30 a.m., women and children were released while around ten men were taken with them back to Naunggyiai Village.
The junta council has launched frequent offensives into Ayardaw Township in the recent days and there have also been clashes against the local defense forces. This August 2 invasion by junta forces has reportedly caused around 200 residents of Bawtkone, Kyunkyaung and Oatkan Villages to flee.
