SAGAING DIVISION – The locals, defence force members, and revolution forces in Myaung Township staged a floating strike (protested on the boats in the river) on Monday (August 21), according to one of the strike leaders.
Locals of 19 villages in the three circuits in the east and south of Myaung Township (where the Irrawaddy River and Chindwin River meet) gathered on more than sixty motorboats and protested against Three Military Ruling; the military group, military dictatorship, and military bureaucracy.
“The places where the floating strike took place are the usual locations where they previously went on strike on motorcycles and cars. This strike movement is to show that our protest against the military dictatorship will not change no matter how the situation changes,” said Mr. Nway Oo, an in-charge of CDSOM (Civilian Defence and Security Organization of Myaung).
This strike is intended to urge ASEAN (which is silent on the issue of Myanmar) and the major democratic countries of the world not to turn a blind eye on the many civilians who are being massacred, whose houses are being burnt down and yet who are still fighting against the dictator for the sake of democracy.
On August 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the boats travelled in the river and Dr. Tayza San and representatives of woman alliance Burma group, Monywa Main Strike Force and Myaung Youth Network (YFC) reportedly delivered revolutionary speech at the protest.
As for the public security, the CDSOM team, Sagaing District Battalions 1, 2, 6 (Company 3), Myaung Township People’s Security Force – Anti-Terrorism Team, Hatchling Dragon, Myaung Myoma PDF and the district defence forces took the main responsibility, and Myaung regional groups also joined.
