INDIA – According to local media reports, 259 Burmese who were detained for illegally living in the Manipur State were sent back home last February 27.
There were 6,746 Myanmar nationals living illegally in Manipur state, of which 259 were sent back to Myanmar after collecting their personal biometrics. The remaining 6,487 were reportedly sent to temporary detention centers.
The State’s Chief Minister, Anbi Ransing, said that the people fleeing from Myanmar due to the war disaster were kept separately, to prevent them from mixing with the locals.
It is also reported that once the personal information of the remaining Myanmar nationals in Manipur state is verified, they will be sent back to Myanmar, according to the State’s Minister.
Many Myanmar citizens have fled to the Indian border to escape the civil war that took place after the militiary coup d’état.
