ITALY – Myanmar citizens in Italy were said to have celebrated a revolutionary Thingyan for the Myanmar New Year and raised funds for the Spring Revolution.
Around 200 Myanmar citizens and Italian friends attended the event, held at Casa Cervi in Gattatico Township of Reggio Emilia State, a notable location in the history of the Italian revolution, on April 14.
The program started with a discussion at Maria Cervi Hall of Cervi Institute at 11 a.m. with Mr. Carlo Ferrari, the former chair of the Italy-Myanmar Friendship Association, acting as the MC. The event was also attended by Dr. Win Myat Aye, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, the Minister of Health and Education of the National Unity Government.
In addition, Cervi Institute Chair Albertina Soliani, Italy-Myanmar Friendship Association Chair Rossana Riccò, Ms. Thuzar Lin from Myanmar Community in Italy and Italy-Myanmar Friendship Association Vice Chair Alberto Botto contributed to the discussion on Myanmar affairs.
Religions for Peace Chair Luigi De Salvia also led an all-religions praying ceremony for the Myanmar New Year and there were music and dance performances related to the Myanmar traditions, Thingyan traditions, revolution, and peace. Myanmar traditional food, Myanmar products, and T-shirts were also sold to raise funds and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the revolution.
