AYEYARWADY DIVISION – It has been reported that 10 non-CDM education staff were arrested by the junta police last October 5th, who posted on social media about being dissatisfied with the removal of the electric meter box in Yay Kyi, Ayeyarwady.
On October 5th, local residents said that, 2 high school teachers, 3 secondary school teachers and 5 primary school teachers had posted on social media about the removal of meter boxes from homes that did not pay electricity bills in their neighborhood in Yay Kyi were arrested by the military council police.
“The police came and arrested them for writing on the social media about the removal of meter boxes. They were arrested for one night at the police station and questioned. The case has not been opened yet,” said a person close to the arrested high school teacher’s family.
According to those close to the arrested teachers, they were asked to pay 500,000 Kyats each and made to sign a bail and release.
“I heard they had to give 500,000 to the station officer then released on bail. They were threatened that a case would be opened if they do it again,” said a person close to one of the arrested primary school teachers.
