MYANMAR – The National Unity Government (NUG) Union Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mr. Nay Phone Latt told the media that nearly 1,000 non-CDMs from Sagaing and Magway regions have entered the legal fold after the seizure of Kawlin Township.
It is said that there were 890 non-CDM staff (possibly more) entering the legal fold until December 15, just a little more than a month after resistance forces took over Kawlin Town on November 6, stated the spokesperson.
“We haven’t received all the lists yet. There are still some lists that haven’t reached us, so the number could be more than 890,” Mr. Nay Phone Latt told the media on December 15.
There are 332 staff in Htilin Town of Magway Division alone and 558 staff from Sagaing Division’s Monywa, Tigyaing, Kawlin, Wuntho, Inndaw, Katha, Kyunhla, Budalin, Taze, Myinmu and Myaung Townships have reportedly returned to the legal fold.
“This list is only department employees and does not include military and police personnel,” Mr. Nay Phone Latt clarified. He also mentioned that some employees did not come to the revolutionary groups directly but deserted from the military council in other ways, so they could not be listed.
“Non-CDMs are already leaving the departments in advance. In some places, they have not turned to the revolutionary forces but deserted the workplaces under junta regime (such as schools and offices) in their own way,” he said.
Those who returned to the legal fold would be dealt with the CDM policy, and will not be allowed to appeal nor will they be allowed to reapply for work if the rank is the deputy director or above. Those below the deputy director level, have the right to appeal after verification by the Non-CDM Management Committee and reapply for the job with demotion or transfer to another area.
From the time of the military coup to the present, there are more than 300,000 CDMs among which 215,000 CDMs have connected to NUG throughout Myanmar, and there may be more than 100,000 CDMs who not yet have connected.
