KARENNI STATE – Around ten IDP camps in western Demoso Township of Karenni State are running out of rations, according to social volunteer groups on the ground.
There has been little support provided to Karenni State by INGOs and most IDP camps are also at hard to travel locations, making it more difficult to receive aid.
Due to the rising commodity price, combined with the difficulty acquiring donors, the support from social volunteer groups alone is said to be no longer sufficient.
The junta council has restricted inflow of goods into Karenni State and junta checkpoints would confiscate entire truckload of goods being carried into the state, reported locals.
A responsible person of Jobs for Kayah said “The prices rose extremely high. In the past, 100,000 kyats could buy three sacks of rice but it can barely afford one sack these days. The amount of support we can provide is insufficient for the displaced people so they are facing hardships.”
There are over 100,000 people displaced by armed conflicts in Karenni State since the military coup in 2021, according to data by BNI, an observer of Myanmar peace.
