SAGAING DIVISION – The junta council soldiers fired heavy artillery shells at Ye Le U Village, south of Kalay Town, on Friday (June 9) at around 1 p.m., killing one civilian and injuring another, according to the residents.
The victims are a 50-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man. The woman’s abdomen was hit by a bullet and she was killed. The man was also wounded in his ribs and is receiving medical treatment. The junta shells also destroyed agricultural equipment and tractors.
“There was no battle on that day, and the junta council soldiers from their bases frequently fired heavy artillery shells like this. Despite the junta column not being there, they usually fired heavy artillery shells at the southern part of Kalay. A 34-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were hit by shells, and a woman was killed. A man is receiving medical treatment,” said a resident.
The junta council also built a base in Zin Kalin Village with sandbags and bunkers, causing nearby civilians to flee. “The junta troops are building their base near the village entrance with bunkers and sandbags. They are also preparing it inside the houses. That’s why the civilians are fleeing, and we couldn’t confirm the number of people who are fleeing,” said a resident.
