SAGAING DIVISION – Junta troops fired heavy artillery shells recklessly at the monastery in Thar Si Village, Kalay Township, on Friday morning (June 16), killing one child and wounding many others. The artillery shells were launched from the junta artillery battalion in Kalay and the junta outpost at the southern part of Kalay.
A junta shell struck the monastery school, resulting in the death of a child with abdominal injuries. “Twi children were seriously wounded, and one was killed. Adults were also injured. The junta council fired approximately seven or eight shells, but we couldn’t determine the exact number. The junta council soldiers also raided the village and fired small weapons in front of the monastery school. They are not present in the village now. One shop was burnt down but we couldn’t confirm the extent of other damages and casualties,” said a resident of Kalay.
The junta soldiers from the Kalay Artillery Battalion reportedly fired artillery shells at 10:50 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:14 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 11:43 a.m.
