MON STATE – An inmate who was forced to work in Kyaikmaraw Prison suffered an electrocuted coma, and the inmates demanded for him to be sent to the hospital. Following that, more than 100 political prisoners were said to have been transferred early in the morning from Kyaikmaraw Prison.
On June 15, at 2:00 a.m., political prisoners were forcibly dragged out by the junta council’s soldiers and prison authorities and transferred from the prison. On June 12, a prisoner who was forced to work became unconscious after being electrocuted and the political prisoners demanded to send him to hospital.
“Including our request to the director, they considered our request as a riot in jail, they usually transfer them. This time, in addition to the case of the past few days, they also transferred the people who led the protest strike that we did before. It also included those who are always criticizing them, those who participated in the prison strike and those from the women’s dormitory who mainly spoke to the director. It is known that more than 100 people were pulled out in total. We are still trying to find out where they were taken. They were taken out around 2:00 a.m.,” said Mr. Thaik Tun Oo, a steering committee member of the Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM).
Famous political prisoners, including Ms. Nu Nu Aung, Ms. Khet Khet Lwin, were sentenced in Kyaikmaraw Prison. The names of female and male political prisoners who were transferred are still being investigated.
