MON STATE – The Anti-Dictatorship New Mon State Party (NMSP-AD), which broke apart from the (former) New Mon Party this February agreed to form an alliance and fight the military dictatorship with the National Unity Government (NUG) last Thursday (February 22).
According to the announcement by NMSP-AD, the political and military team leader Mr. Naing Zaya and NUG’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Relationships Ms. Zin Mar Aung reportedly met online and discussed cooperation in the revolutionary processes and reached an agreement on February 22.
NMSAP-AD announced that it will form a strong alliance for the construction of a federal democratic union and eliminating military dictatorships, by working and agreeing to cooperate in political, military, and public relationships sectors.
The New Mon State Party (anti-dictatorship) NMSP-AD’s leader Mr. Naing Zaya (in charge for both political and military sectors), Deputy leader 1 Naing Banyar Lal and Deputy leader 2 General Lariga Kaung, Alliance Relations in-charge Mr. Naing Banyar Mon, NUG’s Foreign Minister Ms. Zin Mar Aung and Mr. Naing Htoo Aung, permanent secretary of the NUG Ministry of Defense, reportedly attended the meeting.
NMSP-AD left the former party (who agreed to a cease-fire with the junta council) as they no longer thought political discussion could bring the resolution and decided to join the revolution forces to fight against the military dictators on February 14.
The former New Mon State Party, NMSP, led by Chairman Naing Hanthar, continues to hold on to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and continues dealing with the Military Council without breaking contact.
The New Mon State Party is an ethnic armed force that was founded in 1958 and signed the NCA in February 2018.
