MAGWAY DIVISION – In Gangaw township, a person working on the welfare of war refugees said that they are building temporary tents for those fleeing from the villages under the junta council.
One of the people who helps people flee the war from Hanthawady village said, “So far, 6 tents have been completed. More are being built. At the moment, around 50 people fleeing the war have been granted asylum,” he said.
The army of the military council stationed itself in the village of Hanthawady, where thousands of people live, and gave military training to the villagers. They were equipped with weapons and designated as members of Pyu Saw Hti.
At present, the villages under the junta council on the Kale-Gangaw border have been cut off by the local defense forces, so the local people of those villages are no longer living in the village because of the difficulty of living in the village, and have joined the local defense forces and fled.
As it is the rainy season, shelters are being built for those fleeing the war so that they can withstand the weather and are in need of help.
A People Defense Force member from Hanthawady village said, “The war deserters had to hide and escape. They can’t carry food and clothes accessories. Those who want to avoid war need help,” he said.
“For the building of shelters it is convenient, because wood and bamboo is easy to cut from the jungles, but we need roofing for rain for the shelters, and blankets and mosquito nets are also needed,” he added.
According to data compiled by Data for Myanmar, the military council burned down 11,026 houses in Magway division after the military coup as of July 31, 2023.
