SHAN STATE – Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) released a statement saying that an injured medic from the 99th Military Division left on the battlefield was rescued and treated.
On December 14, when the military council forces under Division 99 and the resistance allied forces fought in Nankont area of Mongkoe District, the 42-year-old private Khin Maung Aik was reportedly wounded and left behind.
The injured soldier was starved for a week and was found on December 21 and treated by MNDAA, according to the statement.
The injured right foot was swollen and sore when the soldier was found. He is said to be a medic who served in the Special Battalion 15 under the military council Division 99 and Private Khin Maung Aik recounted to the MNDAA about his experience of being abandoned.
While he was injured, he told his comrades to bring him along, but the military council soldiers left him behind. The injured medic said he was grateful for the treatment and rescue provided by the MNDAA, as mentioned in the statement.
“I called them to save me and to not leave me, but they ran away,” the wounded soldier said on the video interview. He also said that he had not eaten for eight days.
“Even if they killed me, I am very grateful to the MNDAA team (for the rescue),” said the wounded medic and the MNDAA officials reassured him that they would treat his wound and provide assistance.
In the released video (interview), an MNDAA official said that they are following the POW (prisoners of war) rules on the battlefield and informed the wounded soldier not to worry. The video footage also showed the wounded soldier receiving his medical treatment.
