KARENNI STATE – Locals reported that a woman was killed and two others were injured when a heavy weapon exploded at an IDP camp in the western part of Demoso Township, Karenni State on September 18 at around 10:00 p.m.
The shell fired by the junta council exploded near the house where a couple and their niece were sleeping, and the shrapnel hit the 38-year-old lady in her back, killing her.
“They didn’t know anything when the shell landed at 10:30 p.m. It was their bed time and she didn’t get to say anything. The weapon hit her from her back shoulder and directly hit her heart (chest). She was killed on the spot. The husband went to open the door and had not yet opened it when the shell landed, he lied down on his face, and he was lightly wounded near the eyes and in the legs,” said a relative of the deceased woman.
Her husband was slightly injured, and her 17-year-old niece, who was sleeping downstairs, also suffered a head injury, she said.
“One of her nieces was hit in her head and went to the hospital. She hasn’t come back. It is said she had to have her scalp sewn back. We haven’t been able to visit her (at the hospital),” the relative added.
The two shells fired by the military council on that night exploded near the IDP camp, and it has not yet been independently confirmed which battalion of the junta council fired them.
