MYANMAR – The Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia have responded that they will not attend the ASEAN Air Chief Marshals meeting that Myanmar Junta will host.
This meeting is held annually for the cooperation of defence, combating extremism, and disaster relief between ASEAN countries.
At the recent ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting, a joint statement was issued, strongly condemning the leaders of Myanmar’s coup d’état for aerial terrorist attack on the people without following the 5 points Consensus of the ASEAN common agreement more than 2 years ago.
Due to this situation, the meeting of ASEAN Air Marshals, going to be held in Myanmar next week, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia will not attend without giving any reason, officials said.
A spokesman for the Malaysian Army said that their Air Force leaders will not attend at all. The Philippines responded that it would not send a representative but would send a video.
On the Indonesian side, not only the Air Force, but also no representative to be sent, air force spokesperson Agung Sasongkojati clarified.
The Cambodian Air Force Commander did not make any comments on the attendance of this meeting. Singapore, Brunei and Vietnam have yet to comment.
The Thai Air Force Chief responded that he would visit Myanmar because they have bilateral discussions with the Myanmar Junta Council.
