MYANMAR – The junta council sent one female representative to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting for the first time, according to sources in Japan.
ASEAN blocked the junta council from attending the meeting due to the council’s failure to implement the five consensuses of the ASEAN Meeting. They only allowed representatives without political rank. The junta council rejected the ASEAN decision and did not send anyone to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meetings since 2021.
But in 2024, the junta council sent one female representative to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting for the first time when Laos became ASEAN President. This indicates the junta council’s acceptance of ASEAN’s decision.
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held on January 28 and 29, and Laos will submit a report related to the Myanmar Crisis.
