On May 29 morning, around 100 fully armed junta forces invaded Byaingphyu Village and abducted several local men then opened fire on them. Initial reports said that nine civilians were killed in the incident but a resident said that according to the latest reports as of June 1, there were as much as 41 victims.
“They (junta forces) are murdering everyone they believe are supporters of AA (Arakan Army). According to our data, there are 41 victims (murdered by junta forces). There are also detained civilians. We request for help for the freedom of those still alive and detained,” said a resident of Sittwe.
He explained that the junta forces captured over 100 men between the ages of 15 and 60 and murdered those they suspect of being associated to AA and those with tattoos related to AA or even Rakhine words.
Civilians who fled Byaingphyu Village are currently staying at the temporary tents in Wingabar field of Sittwe and are in need of emergency assistance. The exact details of the civilians murdered are not known yet.
The Arakan Army also has not issued any statement regarding the incidents at the village. Its latest statement only mentioned that junta Y12 planes and drones bombed Thaekhon Village and Kyeinkhwaymaw Village in Pauktaw Township and Yoetayote Village in Ponnagyun Township on June 1 morning, informing that there were several civilian casualties.
Yoetayote Village was reportedly bombed by the junta council after junta lobbyists spread that the village supports AA and asked the junta regime to attack and destroy it.
