RAKHINE STATE – The Arakan Army (AA) reported that the number of people tortured and killed by the terrorist army and subordinate groups in Byai Phyu Village, Sittwe Township, has risen to 76.
It was initially learned that more than 50 out of the thousands of villagers from Byai Phyu Village in Sittwe Township, were killed by the junta council and subordinates within four days starting on May 29, but according to the latest information received on June 4, It is reported that the number of people who were arrested and killed during the Byai Phyu Village incident has reached 76.
On May 29, more than 170 junta council and joint forces entered Byai Phyu Village. Then they arrested all men and women irrespective of their age. 53 innocent civilians were then tied up, tortured and killed. Among the members of the junta council are the troops from the Sittwe-based Regional Operation Command, the troops from the 101st Division based in Pakokku and the troops extracted from some other battalions.
On June 2, AA warned that it would retaliate against the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the junta council against the innocent civilians of Rakhine State. AA also issued a strong warning to stop committing crimes against the remaining civilians in captivity from Byai Phyu Village immediately and to stop committing similar crimes in the future.
The AA has warned that the junta council army divisions and battalions that issued the orders and followed such orders to commit war crimes against innocent civilians and everyone involved will face severe retaliation.
