MAGWAY DIVISION – Ration assistance is needed at Kimpunchom IDPs camp in Salin Township, Magway Division, according to Magway Technology University Students’ Union.
A total of more than 350 people from 113 households from Kimpunchom, Bala, Ngalytwin and Chaungsone villages are staying at the camp and the rations have run out during the fourth week of November.
“It’s been more than a month since we last received donations. We have contacted the supporters who used to donate. At the moment, we have to take on debt,” said Amoe who is a member of the Students’ Union.
During the past 8 months, rice, oil, meat and vegetables were supplied to them regularly and thereby, it was able to feed the IDPs regularly without any difficulties, she added.
The daily cost of feeding IDP families is more than 300,000 kyats – 55,000 kyats for 1 Tin of rice, 220,000 kyats for 4 and a half Tins of rice and 70,000 worth vegetables.
Because vegetables are expensive to buy in the city, they buy them directly from the village farms near the IDPs camp, and it costs about 400-500 thousand kyats just to buy vegetables for a week, Amoe said.
It was also mentioned that they have to mainly rely on the donations from people in Myanmar and abroad, and the money and assistance received are managed by the Magway University of Technology Students’ Union and the Mission 21-Magway Force to help those from IDPs camps.
Those who would like to donate can contact Magway University of Technology Students’ Union’s Facebook page.
There are more than 2 million internally displaced people across Myanmar, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs – UNOCHA as of November 9, 2023.
