BAGO DIVISION – According to the locals, it’s been around one week since the water flooded in many areas of Bago Division starting October 7 due to the heavy rain and the flood got worse as the junta council pumped out the water from the dam.
A local mentioned that “there are three dams. It was known that they (the junta council servants) pumped out the water as there was only a few feet left for the water to overstep the dam. But they didn’t inform in advance. So, we didn’t have time to evacuate. The junta council keep saying that they are trying to rescue the civilians while holding the guns to defend from the people’s defence forces. Everything they said is absurd. They are the one who broke the dam.”
A local who participated in the rescuing processes mentioned that due to the flood, the locals have faced many difficulties. Only the local rescue teams and the charity groups are mainly assisting the civilians facing the flood.
“The rescue teams and the charity groups are helping the civilians. We don’t know whether they (the junta council) are helping the civilians or not. We only went to the flooded areas and helped the flood victims. If we have something to donate, we donate to the flood victims and come back. So, we haven’t noticed the surroundings, like who have come to help the flood victims,” said a volunteer.
Even though the flood receded on the main road in Bago town, the water is still flooding in the neighborhoods. So, the civilians in the neighbourhoods still have faced difficulties. The volunteers can go to Kalyarni, Mazin and Zaimyauk wards only on October 12 where the water flows fastest. So, the flood victims can only accept the food boxes on October 12.
According to the flood records, this time flood broke the other records during 60 years. 80% of the town area was affected by the flood. The junta council lobbist telegram channels issued that the junta council subordinates (soldiers and police) are helping the civilians who were affected by the flood since the water receded.
